Home. This word can stir a myriad of emotions, but "home" is the essence of what we desire; a place to which we belong. Theology of Home gives us a guide to the essential simplicity of faith and evangelization with and in the home." --Leah Darrow, founder of Lux University and author of The Other Side of Beauty "A delight, masterpiece, and a treasure all rolled into one wonderful book! Theology of the Home shines a light on the vital role our homes play in our lives while giving hearty and rich food for thought as it pertains to the theological and historical aspects of home life. One to read and reread, loan to dear friends, and leave out for the kids to peruse and appreciate at their leisure. Theology of the Home is a thoughtful and visually stunning delight that satiates our desire for tangible simplicity in the home. Gress, Mering, and Schrieber furnish educational and relatable chapters filled with theological and historical lessons intertwined with engrossing stories from their own lives. A must-read and must-have for coffee tables near and far." --Grace Patton, blogger at Camp Patton"This book has beautiful photography and engaging reflections that skillfully communicate the spiritual significance of home firmly rooted in the tradition. It offers a challenge to think deeper and more intentionally about the spaces we inhabit." --Nathan Bond, Co-founder, Rifle Paper Co.
Home is where we are nurtured, where we live, and where we love. The language of Home is universal. It is where we find the eternal in the everyday.
But the Home has been neglected. To millions of women today, there is nothing worse than being a “homemaker.” If only they knew the supreme value (and reward) of giving loved ones a place to call Home.
Written by three wives and mothers, Theology of Home is a simple guide to help reorient all of us toward our true home, allowing us to think purposefully about how to make our own homes on earth better equipped to get all those living in them to the Father’s house. Featuring more than 100 beautiful (and inspiring) photographs from homes around the country, profound words from the saints and other literary figures, and in depth commentary on the theological and spiritual underpinnings of our love for Home, Theology of Home offers readers a tour of the both the Home and the human heart.
Whether you live in a sprawling estate or a humble dwelling, whether alone or with a crowd, this is far more than a book of beautiful photos and great décor ideas. You will also learn how to create a deeper sense of the divine through:
- Creating a welcoming environment that starts with your Door
- Fostering a sense of remembrance through images, scents, and activities that will keep your family recollecting joy, family, and Christ
- Making your home a place for joyful gatherings and spiritual growth through an emphasis on light
- Prioritizing family dinners to feed the body and the soul
- Opening up your Home to those around you, spreading the joy and peace of Christ with your hospitality
- And much more. . .
Inspiring and beautiful This book is just beautiful. Each page, each photograph has such care for detail and the beauty of both small and prominent parts of your home. The homes featured and photographed are all so different from each other and all somehow inspire me to look at my own space differently (and run out to collect more art for my walls!). Thank you for this book!Beautiful Book! Love this book! We often forget what a wonderful place our home is, but reading this book and looking at the beautiful photos remind us the depth of our home. Great job authors and the illustrator. My children say every time we pull in our drive-way: "We are home!!!" with such happy voices that makes me know theology of home starts very early on in life.Moving beyond the HOW of creating home and into the WHY The lovely photos and composition of this book intrigued me from the start, and after opening it you see they are complimented by gorgeous binding, glossy heavy weight paper, and the most beautiful end papers. All of those visuals lend themselves perfectly to draw you in to reading more about the authors' understanding of what home is and why it matters so much. There is plenty of inspiration for the taking, whether you live alone or have a houseful of people under your roof, but it's not typical diy advice like how to hang a gallery wall or the perfect cocktail recipe for a party. Instead this book shares the WHY behind it all- how home forms us, welcomes us, and allows us to bring others together. Hitting on themes of home like doors, light, order, and hospitality. The title theology of home is accurate- this is a collection of writings that teach about how God can and should be found in the places we dwell. The rich tradition and teachings of their Catholic faith shine through. While it will make a lovely coffee table book, I also think it merits the opportunity to be read cover to cover and discussed with friends, Bible studies, and book clubs. Even though I received a review copy, I've already purchased another for my sister and think it will make a lovely gift for wedding showers in the future.TAN Books provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
