Praise for the Scottish Bookshop Mysteries:"A complex plot, a cast of amiable characters, an array of suspects and an enchanting Scottish setting combine to create a clever entry in a capital series, one that provides multiple pleasures, whether or not accompanied by a single malt."―Richmond Times-Dispatch on Lost Books and Old Bones“Move over Claire Fraser; American bibliophile Delaney Nichols is about to take Scotland-and legions of cozy mystery readers-by storm! As warm and inviting as a cup of tea and a serving of fresh-from-the-oven shortbread. You will want to make repeat visits to The Cracked Spine.” ―Daryl Wood Gerber, nationally bestselling author of The Cookbook Nook MysteriesPAIGE SHELTON had a nomadic childhood as her father’s job as a football coach took the family to seven different towns before she was even twelve years old. After college at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, she moved to Salt Lake City where she thought she’d only stay a few years, but she fell in love with the mountains and a great guy who became her husband. After a couple of decades in Utah, she and her family recently moved to Arizona.
Paige Shelton's Lost Books and Old Bones is a delightful new mystery featuring bookseller and amateur sleuth Delaney Nichols, set in Edinburgh, Scotland.
*INCLUDING A BONUS STORY, A CHRISTMAS TARTAN, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN PRINT!*
Welcome back to Cracked Spine bookstore, where a collection of antique texts may hold the key to solving a present-day murder.
Delaney Nichols, originally of Kansas, is settling happily into her new life buying and selling rare books in Edinburgh, Scotland. When her new friends, who are students at a nearby medical school, come to the shop to sell a collection of antique medical books, Delaney’s sixth sense tells her that the multivolume work is of great value. But once Delaney finalizes the transaction, things take a dramatic turn. . .
One of the medical students has turned up dead in the alley behind the Cracked Spine. Is there a sinister connection between the origin of these books and the people whose hands they fell into? Delaney seems to have her answer when, lo and behold, she finds some old scalpels in the bookshop’s warehouse―and discovers that they belonged to a long-dead doctor with ties to past crimes. But how can one American-born bookseller take it upon herself to solve this historic case? With the killer still on the loose, Delaney has only so much time left to find out. . .
“[For] readers who appreciate bookseller sleuths such as Marianne Macdonald’s Dido Hoare or Joan Hess’s Claire Malloy…The feisty Delaney is an appealing protagonist and the secondary characters are charming as well.”―Library Journal
“A complicated mystery with plenty of historically-based characters and whose ending provides more than one kind of surprise.”―Kirkus Reviews
Old And New Murders Merge In Scotland! I actually rate this novel at about 12+ stars and wish that it had been a two-part episode. Did I like this book? Oh, yes I did! What is there not to like about it?Book authenticator, Delaney Nichols from Kansas, USA is working, living, and loving in Edinburgh, Scotland as a life adventure. She loves it so much there, she can't handle imagining leaving it to return to home.Having thrown herself into the Scottish way of life, it is natural that Delaney made a couple of friends attending the School of Medicine at the University. Delaney meets up with the lasses and the next day is involved in another murder. This one outside in the close (alley) of the bookshop she works at.Not only is she one of the last persons to have seen the victim, Delaney finds herself involved in an ages old murder spree of two infamous killers, William Burke and William Hare. This novel was crafted with well paced fiction, true crime, and a dash of romance. There are missing scalpels, medical books, killers who got away, and whiskey! What has this to do with a modern day murder? Plenty but you will have to read the novel yourselves to find out who, why, how and yes, I already told you where. This series is in my favorite five since I've been reading the Cozy Genre. I highly recommend you beginning at volume one and then you will easily see the character developments as they have endeared many readers, like me, to this excellent series. Please enjoy!Highly enjoyable Enjoyed it immensely. Cannot wait for the next one. This series just gets better and better This series just gets better and better. I love the characters and the plots. I can't wait for the next adventure. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys Scottish or English novels.
